Hurricane Milton Assistance

And other news

Greetings dear animal and Jin Shin Jyutsu-loving friends!

I thought I might be able to put a smile on your face with an update on some of the work we have been doing… and what lies ahead.

Two weeks ago I taught a 4-day Jin Shin Jyutsu for You and Your Animal Companions class at Alaqua Animal Refuge, where I have worked for the last 14 years. There is always a lot going on with hundreds of rescue animals but this time was really something!  Hurricane Milton was headed to the parts of Florida further south. Our refuge worked in co-ordination with the shelters down there to evacuate many of the dogs and get them to safety before the storm.  I was living full time in New Orleans at the time of Hurricane Katrina. How people think about these storms, as well as how they make plans for the animals, blessedly, has improved greatly. I am sure if you are reading this you already know this….. Never leave your animals behind!

Anyway, it turned out that my students and I got to offer an extra level of love and comfort to these scared and confused animals. The refuge and many volunteers did a great job preparing safe runs, comfortable beds, as well as fresh food and water. Most of the dogs got 2 walks a day.

Additionally, they were fortunate to receive something different… a focused kind of touch that spoke of Unconditional Love. My students made each animal they shared this Art with feel like they were seen and valued. These loving hands helped the dogs to relax into calm and feel like everything was going to be alright. I observed that this, in turn made the students really deeply understand the power of the work they shared. Perhaps the highlight of the class was when Rue was the first of the “Hurricane dogs” to be adopted… by one of my students!

Are you ready to jump into sharing this work with the animals in your world and yet as the holidays approach, you feel it may be too hard to get away to class?  No worries!   We have lots of offerings coming up… some webinars on topics like “Sharing the work with your elderly animals” and “Two flows That Help Almost Everything.”  Then we will kick off the new year with a 7-week “Intro to Jin Shin Jyutsu for Your Animal Companions” on the Teachable Platform.

The other big news… ( drumroll). I just finished the 7th printing of my book! To celebrate, I am going to be offering a  first time ever special of  “Buy 1, Get 1 Free” in time for the holidays.  Give these to all your animal loving friends… and keep one for yourself!  Details coming soon.
